IHI Open School Chapter at San Antonio,TX :
An IHI site visit at the HSC, in March 2010 encouraged students to start an IHI chapter. Student leaders from the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions, College of Pharmacy, and Trinity University School of Health Administration enrolled as chapter leaders for the IHI Open School San Antonio Chapter in April 2010. Student leaders and faculty advisors from each school raised awareness about the importance of improving inter-professional communication leading to improved patient care. The chapter holds monthly meetings discussing QI tools and barriers to communication. Representatives and members from each professional school attend the meetings allowing for discussion of barriers to communication.

Mechanisms Enhancing Scholarly Achievement (MESA) purpose is to increase understanding of the mechanisms that contribute to the transition of a diverse group of Academic Health Science Center graduate students enrolled in programs of study (medicine, nursing, dentistry, health professions, and public health) into planned pursuit of a research scientist career.

Active recruitment is ongoing, please contact Leticia Bresnahan (Bresnahan@uthscsa.edu)
